Optimization and modification of content fields for multi-user blog woblog

WordPress is not very friendly to the expansion of content fields. By default, there are only the most basic fields, which are sufficient for general blogs, but for users with special needs who want to extend fields, there are only two ways, one is to modify the code by yourself, and the other is to use a plug-in.

At the beginning, we also looked for a relatively simple and easy way to use the plug-in. We were looking for a very popular extension field plug-in: Advanced Custom Fields. The installation and setting went smoothly and it was relatively easy to get started. However, we found that the page loading speed was obvious during the use process. Reduced. After we have roughly understood the operating mechanism of this plug-in, we believe that if the plug-in is used, it will inevitably cause additional burdens on the program’s operation, which will cause page load delays, and the delay time is not so acceptable to us. For VerySource Blog, we only need to add two fields for the time being: originality and provenance. If you use a plug-in, the performance sacrifice is really too great, so we use the first method, namely: modify the code.

As mentioned above, we added two fields to the posts table. Modifying the code does require a foundation of PHP programming, and the new fields may also need to work with the verification code, such as the ICIT Required Post Fields plug-in used in woblog. So it will be more complicated to modify. Although it is a bit more troublesome, it is indeed much faster than using a plug-in. It basically has no effect and it is worth it.
